Linda Duede Starbuck lived most of her life in Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa. After 35 years together, she lost her husband in 2011 after a long illness. Several years later she retired from a career in an education-related business. With her new-found freedom, she embarked on a series of travel adventures visiting several bucket-list locations like Italy, Alaska, northern Minnesota, Door County, WI and Florida. She had planned to move to Alaska, but after spending the summer there, knew it was not her forever home. Instead, in 2017 she was intuitively guided to pack up her life, sell the family home, leave behind her family and friends and relocate to the Black Hills of South Dakota. She is currently living her dream in a little log house on Rapid Creek. Living alone in a place so deeply beautiful has given her the time and inspiration to reflect on the life she has lived, both physically and spiritually. While Linda has been writing all of her adult life, she mostly kept her poems private. With a new found confidence, she decided to finally let her work out into the world in 2017. Her poems have since been published in various online and print journals. Willing Pioneer is her first book. In addition to writing, Linda loves art and loves to draw. Her favorite artists are the surrealists, Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali. She is also fascinated with pioneer history which translates into her work as a 19th century historic interpreter, and as a volunteer at various art and history venues.
